Gateway High School Reviews

I love Gateway...I work in a different district, and am asked all the time why I don't have my kids in the same district I work in. It's because of the administration and staff at Gateway. I've known the principal for several years, at middle school and high school levels. I'm totally pleased with the way she runs the building. Overall the teachers seem like a good lot; some of them I have little patience with, but that is easily put down to a difference in personalities/ideas. I'm confident that my children will graduate from there with the best that Aurora has to offer -- of course...it is Aurora, but that's another story!

I love Gateway! They provide a way for students to be prepared for college by offering dual credit enrollment at CCA. Gateway gives students awesome and great opportunities to succeed. You get what you put in. Its an excellent educational institution. It is filled with a great diverse student population, making the Gateway HighSchool community an outstanding place!

Gateway's administration is truly horrific. The kids are just kids, and the teaching staff is great, but they get pitted against each other by a cold and calculating admin. team. New teachers be advised...working there was a huge mistake.

If your child is struggling at Gateway perhaps you need to spend more time monitoring your kids academics. My freshman daughter was struggling initially, but once I learned I could monitor her thru Gateways website and there was transparency..her grades shot up because she knew I was monitoring her everyday!! went from a failing grad

The teachers at the school care. What you have to know is that it is not the teachers responsibility to tell th[e kids to bring their books home to study: Parents do your job! This school has a whole lot of issues that the teachers deal with;the administration is very poor! Things change all the time, nothing is constant. So my final word is..teachers care and administration is horrid.

books need to come home on a regular basis, teachers are not will to go the extra mile unless they are of a sports team. children need to be help and shown the right things to do especially when you have parents who are trying to the educational system. edudication is the key to future plans of life. gateway you need to stand out and tall to your students. a course some are going to need more help than others that why you became a teacher so, you can help the children. and it would not help to listen to the students...

As a parent of 3 Gateway graduates, I was extremely pleased with the education they received. They have all 3 graduated from college and are successful in their chosen fields. The teachers were always caring and easy to work with. Principals on the other hand, not so much, but know the teachers and staff care!

This school needs a lot done to it, the halls are over crowded, the teachers don't show they care, and they should get more interesting clubs!

My 2 daughters graduated from Gateway and received a wonderful education. They got what they put in to it. Both were accepted to universities and are performing well. Gateway was an excellent high school where all kinds of students are accepted. The current principal was an outstanding teacher for my oldest daughter and the teaching staff is very good.

I just started attending Gateway High School, after leaving my other school, as a 10th grader. The school has a strange system comparied to my other school, because I am only taking 7 classes, while at the other I took 9 classes all year and actually took electives that I wanted, not that they wanted. The school is very small, and some halls get really stuffed with kids that no one can get by. They dont allow you off campus unless you have a principles pass, the lunch lines are so long, sometimes people dont get their lunchs till its almost over. The lockers are slipt in half, one on the bottom, one on top, and this doesnt help to have much locker space. The teachers are very nice, but I have to say I dont like the school...

The schools csap scores mean nothing it has nothing to do with the teachers or how well the teach is it has to do with the students! Face it your kid is a bad student who doesnt care about his or her work! maybe you should spend more time putting your kids in check! this school is the best the teachers are awsome and they teach just as good as any others.

I am a 2001 graduate from Gateway and I loved attending Gateway for my four years. The teachers are very knowlegable about their subject areas and really cared. Jim Bailey was a role model that attended every event Gateway sponsored and cared about all the students!

Our daughter completed her 1st year at Gateway and we must admit it was a better year than we expected. It is a very diversed school with many challenges but in our personal experience, the teachers & staff were exceptional in working with any issues we had which were few. My recommendation is to personally check out any school and not look at only scores or only by what others parents say. Kids are all different and only you know your own child to determine what is best......do rely on strangers. Show your face, meet the councelor, the teachers, the principal. Attend functions. Support your school and you and your child will share a sense of belonging. They are precious years.

If you are looking for a school where you can learn something that you don't know, Gateway is not the school. CSAP scores can prove this. Gateway has had falling scores on state tests for the past few years. The enviroment is full of students who think that education is nothing but a word.

The principal is now Jim Bailey as of 2003 and the school has gone downhill. His concentration is on the few top academic students. Safety of the students or teachers are not a factor. Some of the teachers expressed great fear to me as I withdrew my child from Gateway for his safety last year. When you attempt to discuss these issues with the Office they generally tell you that there is nothing they can do and a favorite ploy of theirs is 'well, what do you suggest'? There were several major violent incidents at Gateway towards the end of the school year. My son was threatened by a student carrying a knife in the school. We're moving ASAP!

I'm a 2002 graduate and I loved GHS! Minus the few bad teachers I had a great time! Always felt safe and well cared for.
