Community School for the Gifted Reviews

CSG deserves a look. This school cares deeply for each student and works to help them acheive their potential. The teachers and parents are truly partners. The teachers know that the parents know their child best. It is a wonderful safe place your child will love!!

Community School for the Gifted has for eighteen years been 100% for educating each student, challenging them academically, emotionally and socially. Our grandson has just completed eighth grade at CSG and is fully equipped for a successful high school experience. He has gained skills in critical thinking, logic and problem solving that will serve him well as he tackles the academics of high school. He has been challenged in math, his weakest area of study, and has come to appreciate algebra and mathematical logic. Nikola Tesla, little known contemporary of Thomas Edison, was introduced to our Grandson on a field trip. He, through the thorough study of 'how to do a research paper', has written a paper worthy of any high school English class! He has been able to explore and develop as a student in art, music, Spanish and PE, each teacher attentive to his unique strengths. We highly recommend CSG!

This school is fine for preschool and jr. kindergarten but lacks in instruction for the older grades. The administrator is a wonderful caring individual but lacks the ability to run the school and to teach. This school loves it's children but if you want your child to learn I don't reccommend CSG.

Community School for the Gifted has been exactly what my child has needed. He attended the 'top scoring' (CSAP) Littleton Elementary until 4th grade, but was becoming increasingly miserable and frustrated there due to the high emphasis on 'regurgitation' and teaching to the test. Since coming to CSG, he has been encouraged to THINK. He now loves school and is excited about learning. The small class size is definately an advantage. He has made many close friends since coming to CSG; the kids are very supportive of each other. The school uses both collaborative and individualized instruction methods. In addition, my son has realized that he both enjoys and excells in art, due to the school's excellent 'Artist in Residence' instructor. He loves having the opportunity to develop his own artistic style. Academically he is thriving, and did very well on two recent standardized tests (ISEE and RMTS). Highly recommend CSG!!

My son started at CSG in the preschool program and spent the past 3 years there. It's hard to know if your 2 year old is gifted, but this program gives him all the opportunities to support him if he is. The best thing about the school is that they recognize that every child is different (sometimes challenging!), and they accommodate your needs. Turns out that my son is just about average for a 5 year old, and he'll start public school Kindergarten next year. We're so thankful that CSG gave him the loving foundation to prepare him well for a successful education.

We are so pleased with CSG! Our son has come alive at this school and is so inspired to learn. He had begun to shut down and suffer stress-related physical complaints in public school due to the large class sizes, the pressure of the high-stakes testing and the endless, dull worksheets. At CSG, the education is fun and interesting, but still challenging. We appreciate the wonderful teachers, the small classes and the very individualized education. CSG is a very unique and wonderful place.

My son has been at CSG since 3rd grade and is graduating this year. We moved him from another private school that was highly accredited and was supposed to be the 'very best'. He did poorly there and we got constant calls on him fitting in. What we realized isthat he was very gifted and was somewhat bored as the larger class sizes didn't allow much one-on-one attention and he told us that many of the kids couldn't read. We looked at several other private schools and felt that they were really cold and too cookie cutter in their approach. CSG was more like an extended family, as the teachers really care and they make each child feel special. My son has consistently tested at the highest levels in his academics and he really enjoys going to school every day. I think that says it all!

My daughter came to CSG after spending time in the public school system, and she absolutely blossomed at CSG. She had been deemed as 'average' in her public school, but excelled both academically and socially at CSG. She today is in college and looks back at her time at CSG as a turning point in her life. The staff at CSG is without equal, from the Director to every teacher. The curriculum is rigorous, the teachers compassionate and the extracurriculars challenging. If your child wants to learn dance, chess or computers, they will find something of interest at CSG. Beware though, as CSG will make your child think. If you believe that giftedness means giving your child extra work, then CSG is not for you. If you believe though that giftedness is a part of who your child is, then CSG is definitely a great choice.

My son had gone from being a bright, happy, and confident little boy who loved learning to an upset, self-doubting, frustrated student who hated school in one of Denver's highest scoring elementary schools. When we inquired about his being gifted and possibly bored the teacher told us 'he couldn't possibly be gifted'. Well, she was wrong. Not only was he gifted but also trying to cope with severe dyslexia. Two years laters at CSG he's moved up a grade, reading at grade level, and our happy little learner is back to being his confident happy self.

Early on in our son's life we realized that he was different in many ways. Not just advanced academically, but also in tempermant. We wanted a place that would understand who he was as gifted child and not label him as a problem. CSG has been wonderful in that respect. Also, we appreciate the small classes and individualized attention. We feel very lucky to have a school where the teachers are very accessible to the parents. My son loves learning and going to school!

The school is great through Kindergarten. Very small class size (kindergarten class had 9-10 students, 8th grade had 2 students). The majority of the students are in preschool through kindergarten. The Arts and Music teachers are excellent! Some of the administration decisions are questionable at best: 1. There is no standard curriculum beyond 2nd grade. It s all based on the students and the teachers interest. 2. The school is not accredited. The school has limited resources Technology is a joke. From lack of equipment to a teacher who s technology knowledge came from basic knowledge of MS Powerpoint and MS Word.

This is a great school. Positives are fantastic teachers, small classes, individualized attention, good community. Negatives would be that sometimes things are disorganized, the staff can be overworked, and discipline is sometimes lacking. My child has excelled academically since arriving here and is really happy! Positives win! If you can handle a small school with a bit of chaos, this place is great.

Be careful, the administration is temperamental... From the highly mismanaged employees, to the disarray in the hallways, there is nothing to recommend about this school. For an administrator to tolerate constant and gross tardiness from her teachers, all the way to dismissing a parent making a suggestion, it's a poor environment for kids.

CSG has been a wonderful experience for our children over many years. Classes are small and all the children build a good relationship with each other, the staff and family members. It really is a community, not just a school. Academically our children are well ahead of their peers in both the public and other private schools. Despite its small size they really make a great effort in the areas of extra-curricular activities, including field trips to science and industry sites, cultural events and community activities. Its small size also allows older children to serve as mentors to younger ones, this cross-age interaction is something often discouraged in other schools but better reflects the world we all ultimatley live and work in.

My child is not a number here. She is learning to think for herself and is academically more advanced than her friends at the public schools.

This is a school with heart - individualized education, small classrooms and a love of learning! There are many opportunities for fieldtrips to see how the things they are learning about apply in the real world. Great parents and staff who are very involved and care deeply about the children and a quality education. As the parent of a twice-exceptional child, I know this is the best decision we could have made for our son to be happy and develop a love of learning!
